PRESS RELEASE

Announcing the Greenfield All-Day Block Party on Saturday, Aug 26th.

Alternate Histories Studio joins with the Greenfield Neighborhood Yard Sale and the Greenfield Community Association for free family activities from 8am-7pm.

Pittsburgh, PA

The Greenfield Neighborhood Yard Sale, Greenfield Community Association, and Alternate Histories are working together to stage an All Day Block Party for the community on Saturday, August 26th. Coleman Street next to the Alternate Histories Studio at 517 Greenfield Ave, will be closed all day. The event is divided into two parts, the Greenfield Neighborhood Yard Sale from 8am-2pm, and the Alternate Histories Happy Hour from 2-7pm.

Greenfield Neighborhood Yard Sale, 8am-2pm

  • From 8am-2pm, the Greenfield Neighborhood Yard Sale will take place across the neighborhood, with over 40 homes and families selling (visit com to see a map of all registered homes).
  • To support residents who don’t have a front yard, and to provide a home base for visitors and activities, people will be able to set up and sell on Coleman street.
  • Coffee & drinks will be for sale by the nearby Hazelwood Cafe, while the PGH Crepes truck will be on hand with sweet & savory crepes. Necromancer Brewing, which is opening a taproom at 563 Greenfield Ave, will be on hand to sell drinks. Greenhouse Co-Op, opening soon at 557 Greenfield Ave, will be selling houseplants.

Alternate Histories Happy Hour, 2-7pm

  • In the same block party space on Coleman Street, Alternate Histories will host DJ Formosa (Stephanie Tsong of Jellyfish) playing music from 3-7pm
  • Local makers & artists including candles from xpresshuns of love, fashion pieces & accessories from Rebel Bred, and new work from Alternate Histories
  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks from La Palapa Mexican Food, as well as snacks & treats from Junk Castle Goods
  • Beers from Coven Brewing, whose co-founded and head brewer Caiti Sullivan lives in Greenfield

“The outdoor happy hour events I’ve been staging have gone really well” says Matt Buchholz of Alternate Histories. “But people still remember last year in August when we closed down the street for the Greenfield Beer Release with East End Brewing. When the GCA and Yard Sale started talking about closing the street again, we all knew this was a great opportunity to do something great for the community on a bigger scale.”

“The Greenfield Community Association is excited to see the return of the Greenfield Yard Sale,” said Ashley DiGregorio who volunteers on the GCA Business Committee. “This occasion presents a fantastic chance to connect with neighbors and display the splendor of our community. A big thank you to all the Greenfielders who worked together to make this happen!”

Greenfield Yard Sale organizer Will Reynolds Young says “We are excited for the community element of our Yard Sale to return. When I first co-organized the sale in 2019 we dreamed of having a central sale area with food and drinks. It’s going to be amazing to see that come to life through this wonderful partnership.”

This event is free to attend and family-friendly. Accessible bathrooms are available inside the Alternate Histories Studio. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome to attend. Free street parking is available, and is accessible via the 58 bus.
